The fist time I sent a fax was just after fax first came out, more than 25 years ago. I remember being slightly nervous because I was not really into the technology. What if I screwed up? What if I couldn’t get it to work?

Although it was a new machine, compared to what we have today it was a fairly simple machine. You had to call the person you were sending the fax to, to make sure their machine was connected. You then had to dial the number and send the fax.

It went through first time and I was quite proud of my achievement.

Faxes have all but disappeared thanks to e-mail. But I also remember similar nervousness the first time we got e-mail in our office.

Right now, if you don’t know how to use e-mail, you are functionally illiterate in the business world.

Can you imagine running your business without e-mail, a web site or a cell phone?

Inventions keep coming at us and unless we adapt to them we get left behind.

I believe the next technology that will change the face of the way we communicate in business will be podcasting. I’ve been watching it for the last 18 months and believe if you don’t adopt it and quickly adapt it to your business, you’ll probably get left behind.

Can you afford that?

This is one new technology you need to know something about before it sneaks up on you and you get left behind.
